Endless Lawn IV

Alphonse Mucha’s Byzantine Heads

Alphonse Mucha’s Byzantine Heads

Here are two poems. They’re sisters.

Some Branches Reach Out I

Some branches reach out

with damp and tender fingers

only to touch your shoulder

and remind you through a subtle

lingering wetness

that they existed

and they touched you

and that is enough.

Some Branches Reach Out II

Some branches reach out

with barbs and bristling fingers

only to touch your shoulder

and remind you instantly that

your celerity,

that your careless haste,

causes you more pain

than calm reflection.
