Hi-Potion (chanson)

No, the title of this entry isn’t a cryptic clue about Nelson’s favorite band. Chanson is the French word for song. This post will dive into the meaning and inspiration behind the title track of our up-coming album. There’s a brief release update at the end of this post.
The song I’m writing about is, of course, called “Hi-Potion.” A hi-potion is a healing item from the popular Final Fantasy video game series created by Square Enix. At first, the lyrics to this song may appear to be a random list of ingredients. The verses are actually lists of ingredients for three products that I think could have the healing effect of a hi-potion. Can you divine one of these three products? There’s a hint in the art for this post! I wrote the lyrics and basic structure for this song a few years ago when I was ill. Creating this song lifted my spirits. We hope this tune will serve you in much the same way.

Hi-Potion album update: Our friend Matt is still chipping away at the cover art for the new release. He’s using a combination of watercolor and digital editing to create a wonderful tableau. Likewise, Dave and I are executing the finishing touches on “Swamp Mint” and “Waters.” Look forward to hearing our new material before the end of August!
